Justyna Bajda

Dr. habil. Justyna Bajda, literary scholar and art historian, professor at the Department of the History of Literature of Positivism and Young Poland (Institute of Polish Philology, University of Wrocław). She is interested in the era of Young Poland and European modernism, primarily in the aesthetic trends and issues related to the correspondence of arts. She deals with interdisciplinary research in the field of comparative literature and culture, with primary focus on the impact of French culture on literature, art, and material culture at the turn of the 20th century. She devoted her latest research to the existence and functioning of the color blue in selected areas of literature and culture of Young Poland (monograph in preparation). She has published nearly one hundred articles and detailed studies devoted to various aspects of culture and aesthetics at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly in Polish and French. Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer’s Aesthetic Awareness and Visual Imagination] (2003, DiG); „Poeci – to są słów malarze…” Typy relacji między słowem a obrazem w książkach poetyckich okresu Młodej Polski [–“Poets are Painters of Words...”: Types of Relations Between Word and Image in Poetic Books of the Young Poland Period] (2010, UWr); a chapter on “Positivism – Young Poland” in Poezja drugiej połowy XIX wieku [–Poetry of the Second Half of the 19th Century] (2007, Alinea); entries in Wielki leksykon literatury polskiej [–Great Lexicon of Polish Literature] (2005, Wydawnictwo Dolnośląskie). For years she has collaborated with the European Center for Slavic Research (Centre Européen d’Études Slaves) and the University of Poitiers (Université de Poitiers), where in 1998–2000 and 2015–2016 she lectured on the Polish language, history of Polish literature and civilization (Department of Slavic Languages and Orientals / Département des Langues Slaves et Orientales).
