Paweł Bąk

"Dr. habil. Paweł Bąk, professor at the University of Rzeszów, linguist and translation specialist, head of the Department of German Studies (since 2021) and Chair of German Linguistics and Translation Studies (since 2013) at the Institute of Modern Languages. Interested in theoretical and contrastive linguistics, he researches aspects of translation, semantics, and pragmatics, as well as discourse and text analysis. He is an author of around 90 articles, co-editor of ten monographs, reviews, and texts on popular science. He also published two monographs, Die Metapher in der Übersetzung. Studien zum Transfer der Aphorismen von Stanisław Jerzy Lec und der Gedichte von Wisława Szymborska (2007, Peter Lang) and Euphemismen des Wirtschaftsdeutschen aus Sicht der anthropozentrischen Linguistik (2012, Peter Lang). He is also a visiting editor for the periodicals Lingwistyka Stosowana [–Applied Linguistics] and Lublin Studies in Modern Languages and Literature. Humboldt Research Fellow (Fellowship for Experienced Researchers 2017–2018, 2019–2020, at University of Regensburg, Germany), he gives papers at international conferences and visiting lectures in Austria, China, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Russia, and Switzerland. Professor Bąk is a board member of the Association of Polish Germanists [Verbandes Polnischer Germanisten, VPG], the International Association for German Studies [Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik, IVG], the Polish Society of Applied Linguistics Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum (since 2020) and the International Academy for Translation and Interpreting (since 2004); he also serves as a vice-president for interdisciplinary forum “Semantics” [Semantyka]. In 2021 he co-organized an international conference in the Humboldt-Kolleg series, “Historische Fach- und Wissenschaftstexte kontrastiv” [Specialist and Scientific Texts in Historical and Contrastive Perspective]; and in 2022 a conference on language in communication, translation, and language pedagogy, “Sprache in Kommunikation, Translation und Glottodidaktik.” He supervised four PhD dissertations and around 70 MA theses."
